Hopefully a flick through the pages of this brochure will explain why you have to photograph the remote and mysterious Kingdom of Bhutan.
After 10 visits, I still love returning to Bhutan. It’s a country like no other, steeped in history and religion, tucked away between towering mountains, yet with an authenticity that is hard to find in an ever shrinking world.
For photographers, Bhutan is Paradise - or should we say ‘Shangri-la’? There is so much to photograph, from the locals in their colourful dress to the imposing white-washed ‘dzongs’ (fortified monasteries) clinging to sheer cliffs.
And if the scenery and culture isn’t amazing enough, the hospitality of the Bhutanese people completes the picture!
For our 2028 tour, we are going to start in the East of Bhutan (by flying into India and driving up to the Bhutanese border) and then follow the setting sun over the next 15 days/16 nights, ending up in Paro in the west where Bhutan’s international airport lies - and the remarkable Taktsang monastery (on the cover of this brochure).
We travel in comfort. Our tour has up to four 4WD style vehicles, each with two guests, one guide and one driver. The guides include Peter, David and Namgay. All the drivers are Bhutan locals. It’s a great way to get around the country - and much better than a tourist bus! The 3 to 4 star hotels are clean and comfortable, the food is excellent and there are lots of opportunities to purchase souvenirs.
However, the biggest thrill will be meeting the friendly locals and the photographs you capture while travelling through Bhutan, the land of the Thunder Dragon.
