Castello Ceconi with Peter Eastway and Tony Hewitt

As part of the exhibition process for No Place | No Time, held in Castello Ceconi in Italy, I wrote a series of notes to accompany the Artist Statement and thought they would make an interesting series of newsletter posts.  The accompanying print is a quick iPhone photo of the print on the wall at Castello Ceconi Art Gallery in Italy. 

What's it like at Castello Ceconi in Italy?

When you tell people you have an exhibition in a neo-Gothic castle, north of Venice and in the foothills of the Italian dolomites, you don't have to say much more to be impressive.

But that's really just a small part of the story. Castello Ceconi is located on a small plateau, deep within thick forests and surrounded by an amphitheatre of towering mountain peaks. It's an hour and half north of Venice, with the autostrada changing to increasingly narrow roads that wind and snake their way to a remote and luxurious oasis.

As you emerge from the forest canopy, you pass through tall stone and iron gates, up a lengthy driveway and past a large circular fountain to an expansive forecourt. Above the main entrance stand four stone statues and the castle walls are punctuated by painted frescos.

And there's not a sound around the extensive manicured gardens except for a distant church bell down in Pielungo, a couple of kilometres away.

Inside and out, the castle has been fully restored by Graphistudio and it has been used primarily for photography workshops and events. Inside, the first and second floors now house six large rooms which form the gallery spaces. The third floor (and the tower) is residential for those lucky enough to be invited and downstairs is a fully equipped restaurant - so it's a perfect venue for an art gallery.

The No Place | No Time exhibition by Peter Eastway and Tony Hewitt opened 4 July 2026 and will remain open at Castello Ceconi in Italy until 31 October 2026.
