Happy new year! Have you made lots of new year resolutions? Will you keep them? What happened to last year's resolutions? Don't ask!

I made a new year resolution many years ago never to make a new year resolution again. Probably says a little bit too much about me. Yet, the idea of new year projects is appealing and one of the projects I started last year in the middle of our Covid experience was to photograph locations near to me.

If you've visited Western Australia's south west, you'll understand what a beautiful part of the world it is. Is this why Christian Fletcher has such a successful photography business, because all these amazing landscapes are right on his doorstep? A few years ago, Christian visited the northern beaches where I live in Sydney and asked me why I was such a lazy bum - here I had all these amazing landscape, right on my doorstep, and I wasn't doing anything about it.

I hate it when Christian is right!

And I still haven't done anything about it, so I'm going public with the opportunity for others to name and shame me. Step one is to develop a portfolio of, say, 30 images from which I'll select, say 15, for an exhibition. How's that for a new year project? Created right here, as I'm writing this.

In my defence, I have completed several projects - a box portfolio of embossed Middlehurst prints, a set of mini concertina books on Iran, and my lengthy three-volume Bhutan project is just needing the slip box. So, I have achieved somethings, but like all good corporate citizens, once last year's budget is reached, it is forgotten.

What are we aiming for this year?
