SanDisk has released two styles of portable SSDs for storage on the go.
Sandisk has announced two portable solid state drives (SSD), one which is claimed to be the fastest, the other one of the smallest!
The small unit (shown above) is the SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD and it is half the size of a popular smartphone. It's also a fraction of the weight, but it offers high speed performance up to four times that of a standard hard drive. It comes in 120 GB and 240 GB capacities, has a read speed up to 415 MB/s, a write speed up to 340 MB/s, and a USB 3.0 interface. It really is tiny and I'm taking a couple of these down to Antarctica with me as my archive drives to see how they handle.
The larger unit is the SanDisk Extreme 900 and it comes in 480 GB, 960 GB and 1.92 TB capacities. Read and write speeds are both up to 850 MB/s and they have a USB 3.1 (Gen. 2) interface.
As camera files for both stills and videos increase in size, it never seems to be a problem because there's always someone like SanDisk offering a useful solution!
