Better Photography Landscape MasterClasses FAQ
Presented by Peter Eastway, AIPP Grand Master of Photography
How Many MasterClasses Are There?
Currently there is only the one Masterclass and it is about Landscape photography. There are plans for Masterclasses on Portraiture and Travel in the future.
Within the Landscape Photography MasterClass, there will are 18 'classes'.
What Is A MasterClass?
A MasterClass is a series of articles and movies. The articles and movies are designed to be read and enjoyed. They are educational in nature and cover a broad range of topics concerning landscape photography. There are no questions or examinations, it’s all about learning at your own pace.
When Can I Join The MasterClass?
Because of the design of the articles and movies, you can join any time you like. You gain access to all the classes immediately, so you can fast-track your learning if you wish. Going away for a few months? Don't worry, all the classes will still be here when you get back. The membership lasts a lifetime.
What’s In A MasterClass
A MasterClass comprises six elements:
- Fine Art: A movie about the creation of a successful photograph, discussing the capture and the following Photoshop steps used in post-production.
- Critique: A movie where images contributed by MasterClass participants are critiqued, with suggestions made for improvement.
- Knowledge: An article about equipment or a technique.
- Post-Production: A movie about an aspect of digital post-production, usually with Photoshop, but relevant to Photoshop Elements and Lightroom as well.
- Journey: A series of images and notes from a location or destination – hopefully some inspirational images and ideas for your own journeys in the future.
- Acumen: Ideas and information about the business side of landscape photography, whether you're wanting some extra pocket money or interested in turning pro.
The MasterClass subscription also includes a resource page which includes movies on basic Photoshop skills (layers) and a Landscape Photography Business Plan. These are provided as 'free' extras to ensure you get the most of the Masterclass experience.
Who Writes The Masterclasses?
All the content is produced by Peter Eastway, AIPP Grand Master of Photography. You can visit his personal website at www.petereastway.com
. Peter Eastway has been the editor of photography magazines for over 30 years, has written a book on landscape photography for Lonely Planet, and is an international lecturer and speaker on landscape photography. The benefit of the Better Photography Landscape Photography MasterClass is that you have a genuine expert to guide you, someone who practices landscape photography and is professionally successful at it too.
How Many Classes Are Included In A Subscription?
There are 18 Landscape Photography classes and a subscription will last a lifetime - it does not expire. You can return whenever you wish to re-watch or re-read the classes. When you subscribe, you get access to all the classes immediately.
What Happens At The End?
At the end of 18 lessons, you will have learned the fundamentals of landscape photography. You should have a clear understanding of the basics and how Peter approaches the subject. Importantly, you will have developed the skills needed to shoot and post-produce your own landscape photographs with your own approach and style.
Will I Have Learnt Everything About Landscape Photography?
Almost! Photography is changing so much that there’s no way we can teach you everything, but this is a good question. With this MasterClass we will have covered all of the essential aspects of landscape photography.
What If I Don’t Think The MasterClass Is Worth It?
The MasterClass has a full, money back guarantee. If you’re not completely satisfied with your subscription, we will refund your subscription in full. We don’t want you to buy something you’re not happy with. Generally, we think 6 months is sufficient to determine if the MasterClass is right for you.
Will The MasterClass Content Be Available Anywhere Else?
Some of the movies will be available for individual purchase on the website; some of the articles may have appeared in magazines or books before. In the future we may package up sections of the MasterClass to offer in other ways. However, at present the only way to get this combination of articles and movies is through a subscription to the MasterClass.
How Advanced A Photographer Should I Be?
We recommend that you own a DSLR camera, use Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture, Capture One or Photoshop Elements, and have probably been taking photos for at least one year. We assume you know some of the basics from a technical perspective, but we’re aiming to get you to think creatively about landscapes, rather than just working out which button to press.
What Software Do I need?
The techniques and tools in this Masterclass apply to the current versions of Photoshop, Lightroom
and Capture One. They equally apply to older versions, back to Photoshop 5.5.
How Much Are The Masterclasses?
A MasterClass Subscription is AUS $295.
How Do I Subscribe?
To go to the subscription page, you will need to register on the site first with a name and password. When you are logged in, on the left is a section called Your Account and below, Your Subscriptions. Click on Your Subscriptions and when the page loads, click on the Purchase New Subscription link at the top of the page. If you're already logged in, you can just click here
Playing the Masterclass DVD on a Mac Computer.
To run the DVD on a Mac computer you may need to give it a little help!
- Instead of using Safari, try Firefox or Chrome.
- You may need to tell Apple that the DVD is good to run! In Security Settings, there is a check box that mentions "Apple doesn't recognise the author of this movie, so we are not going to play it and we won't even show you an error message", that is not exactly what it says of course, but something along those lines - so uncheck this box.
